ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Mountain Water Meets Modern Craft

Clear Water Distilling Co. sits in a business suite in Pleasant Grove, Utah, about 45 minutes south of Salt Lake City. Founded by husband-and-wife team Jake and Stephanie Anderson in 2016, this small craft distillery started as a passion project that grew into Utah’s commitment to producing premium vodka and gin. Jake, a former software engineer, and Stephanie, who worked in marketing, spent two years perfecting their recipes before officially opening their doors in 2018. The operation runs out of a converted office space where they’ve installed custom copper stills and created a tasting room that feels more like a modern speakeasy than a traditional distillery. They focus exclusively on clear spirits, using locally-sourced grains and Utah’s mountain water to create their signature products.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Seven-Stage Filtration Changes Everything

What sets Clear Water apart is their obsession with water quality and their unique filtration process. They source their water from a natural spring in the nearby Wasatch Mountains and run everything through a proprietary seven-stage filtration system that Jake designed himself. Their gin uses 11 botanicals, including some foraged from the Utah mountains, and their vodka goes through more distillation cycles than most craft operations can afford. The fact that they’re operating in Utah’s restrictive liquor environment also makes them noteworthy—they had to navigate complex state regulations that many distillers would find prohibitive.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Tech Startup Vibes Serious Spirit Craft

You’ll taste in a clean, modern space that feels more like a tech startup than a rustic distillery. Jake or Stephanie usually run the tastings themselves, walking you through their process and the story behind each spirit. The operation is small enough that you can see the entire production setup from the tasting bar, and they’re happy to explain their filtration system and custom equipment. The atmosphere is intimate and educational rather than party-focused, making it feel like you’re getting an inside look at a serious craft operation.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

For Clear Spirit True Believers

This is perfect for spirits enthusiasts who want to understand the technical side of distilling, especially if you’re interested in vodka and gin production. You won’t find the rustic charm or bourbon focus of many craft distilleries, but you will get genuine expertise and carefully crafted products. It’s not going to be a day-long adventure, but if you’re exploring Utah’s craft spirits scene or want to taste some genuinely well-made clear spirits, it’s worth the drive to Pleasant Grove.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead to schedule a tasting since they operate by appointment only and the space is small. The location can be tricky to find since it’s in a business complex, so use GPS and look for suite 401. Jake and Stephanie are passionate about their craft, so don’t hesitate to ask technical questions about their process—they love talking shop. Try both their vodka and gin to appreciate the difference their water and filtration make.
