Lockwood Distilling Company sits in a Richardson industrial park, about 20 minutes north of downtown Dallas. Founded by husband-and-wife team Scott and Jennifer Lockwood in 2014, this craft operation started as a passion project that grew into Texas’s boutique distilling scene. Scott, a former IT professional, and Jennifer, who handled the business side, spent years perfecting recipes before opening their doors to the public in 2016. The 3,000-square-foot facility houses their custom copper still and aging room, where they produce small-batch bourbon, rye whiskey, and vodka.
The Lockwoods didn’t follow the typical path into distilling. After years in corporate careers, they wanted to create something tangible with their hands. Scott dove deep into the science of fermentation and distillation, while Jennifer focused on building relationships with local restaurants and bars. They faced the usual Texas regulatory hurdles but persisted, eventually becoming one of the few craft distilleries in the Richardson area. Their approach centers on traditional methods with modern precision—they control every step from grain selection to bottling.
Visitors enter a working distillery that doesn’t try to be anything fancy. You’ll see the production floor, smell the mash cooking, and often catch Scott or Jennifer explaining their process. The tasting room feels more like a neighborhood bar than a corporate visitor center, which suits the Lockwoods perfectly. They’re usually around to chat about their whiskey philosophy or recommend local restaurants that feature their spirits. It’s the kind of place where you learn something new about distilling and leave with a bottle you actually want to drink.
