Disobedient Spirits sits on South Main Street in Homer City, a small Pennsylvania town about an hour east of Pittsburgh. Founded by husband-and-wife team Chris and Jen Fegley in 2018, the distillery occupies a restored historic building that once housed local businesses in this Indiana County community. Chris brings brewing experience from his family’s Fegley’s Brew Works operation in the Lehigh Valley, while the couple decided to branch into distilling as their next adventure in craft beverages. They focus on small-batch bourbon, rye whiskey, and rum, along with seasonal moonshine varieties.
The Fegleys spent several years planning their move into spirits, working through Pennsylvania’s complex distillery licensing process and renovating their Homer City space. Chris handles the production side while Jen manages operations and the tasting room experience. Their approach centers on traditional methods with modern equipment, using a custom copper still setup to produce spirits in batches small enough that they can monitor every step of the process. The distillery reflects their philosophy of doing things their own way – hence the “disobedient” name – rather than following every industry convention.
Visitors find a welcoming tasting room where you can sample their current lineup and learn about their production methods. The space maintains the character of the old building while serving as a functional distillery where you can see the stills and fermentation tanks during tours. Chris and Jen often handle tastings personally, sharing stories about their transition from brewing to distilling and their experiences establishing Pennsylvania’s craft spirits scene in a smaller community.
