ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Mountain Engineering Meets Craft Whiskey Making

Two Trees Distilling Company sits on Continuum Drive in Fletcher, North Carolina, about 15 minutes south of Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Founded by husband-and-wife team Brad and Marsha Rodgers in 2015, this craft distillery started as a retirement project that turned into something much bigger. Brad, a former engineer, and Marsha, who worked in hospitality, wanted to create something together that combined his technical precision with her people skills. They chose Fletcher partly for the mountain water and partly because Western North Carolina was just starting to emerge as a craft spirits region. The distillery operates out of a modern industrial building that they’ve transformed into a welcoming tasting room and production facility, focusing primarily on bourbon, rye, and moonshine. What started as a couple’s dream to make quality spirits has grown into a respected local operation that’s become part of Fletcher’s small but growing craft beverage scene. The Rodgers didn’t have distilling backgrounds, but they approached it like any craft—learning from others, investing in good equipment, and taking time to get it right.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Precision Distilling From Day One

Two Trees sets itself apart through Brad’s engineering approach to distillation, treating each batch like a precision manufacturing process while maintaining the craft spirit philosophy. They source their grains locally when possible and use North Carolina mountain water, which gives their spirits a distinct character compared to distilleries in other regions. The name ‘Two Trees’ represents both the partnership between Brad and Marsha and their commitment to sustainable practices. Unlike many newer distilleries that start with sourced spirits, they’ve been distilling their own products from day one, aging their bourbon and rye in full-size barrels rather than rushing products to market. Their location in Fletcher puts them in the sweet spot of being close enough to Asheville for tourists but far enough out to maintain reasonable overhead costs.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Like Visiting Friends Who Make Really Good Whiskey

You’ll walk into a tasting room that feels more like a comfortable living room than a sterile industrial space, with the production area visible through large windows so you can watch the distilling process. Brad or Marsha often run tastings themselves, explaining their process and the stories behind each spirit with genuine enthusiasm rather than rehearsed scripts. The tastings are intimate affairs—usually just a handful of people at a time—where you can ask questions and really understand what goes into making each bottle. You’ll taste their current offerings while learning about the differences between their bourbon and rye recipes, and they’re honest about which batches turned out better than others. The whole experience feels like visiting friends who happen to make really good whiskey.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

Intimate Learning Over Big Production

If you’re looking for a big production distillery with elaborate tours and fancy gift shops, this isn’t it. But if you want to understand craft distilling from people who are actually doing the work themselves, Two Trees delivers something more valuable. It’s perfect for spirits enthusiasts who appreciate the technical side of distilling and want to taste products that haven’t been focus-grouped to death. The intimate setting means you’ll learn more in 45 minutes here than you might in larger, more commercial operations. This works especially well if you’re touring multiple distilleries in the Asheville area and want to see how a small, owner-operated place compares to the bigger names. Don’t expect bells and whistles, but do expect honest conversation and spirits that reflect the personalities making them.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead or check their website before visiting since they don’t always have regular hours—sometimes Brad and Marsha are focused on production rather than visitors. Fletcher can be tricky to navigate if you’re not familiar with the area, so use GPS and give yourself extra time to find the location. Ask about their aging process and what they’ve learned since starting—both Brad and Marsha are happy to share the challenges and successes they’ve had. If they have any limited releases available, those tend to be more interesting than their standard offerings since they represent experiments that worked out well. Don’t rush the tasting; they’re not trying to move people through quickly, so take advantage of their willingness to educate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Two Trees Distilling Company — Visitor FAQ

Do I need to make an appointment to visit?
Yes, it’s best to call ahead since Brad and Marsha often focus on production during certain times of day. They prefer to give visitors their full attention rather than rushing through tastings, so appointments help ensure you get the complete experience.
How long has Two Trees been making their own spirits?
They’ve been distilling their own products since opening in 2015, unlike many craft distilleries that start with sourced spirits. This means their bourbon and rye represent nearly a decade of learning and refining their process.
What makes their spirits different from other North Carolina distilleries?
Brad’s engineering background brings a precision manufacturing approach to distilling, while they use local mountain water and focus on traditional bourbon and rye recipes rather than experimenting with unusual flavors. They age everything in full-size barrels rather than rushing products to market.
