ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Warehouse Whiskey In Westchester County

Current Spirits operates from a converted warehouse space at 375 Clearbrook Road in Elmsford, New York, bringing craft distilling to Westchester County. Founded by Jim Loupos, who previously worked in the beverage industry, the distillery opened in 2019 after navigating local zoning challenges to establish one of the few operating distilleries in the area. The facility houses custom copper stills and focuses on small-batch production of bourbon, rye whiskey, and seasonal spirits. Loupos and his team built Current Spirits around the philosophy of local production with premium ingredients, sourcing grains from regional suppliers when possible. The distillery operates as both a production facility and tasting room, creating spirits that reflect the character of the Hudson Valley region. The space maintains an industrial aesthetic with exposed beams and concrete floors, while the copper stills serve as the centerpiece of the operation. Visitors can experience the full production process through guided tours and tastings in an intimate setting that feels more like visiting a working craft operation than a tourist destination. The focus remains on educating guests about the distilling process while showcasing spirits that are still developing their reputation in the competitive New York craft distilling scene.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Grain to Glass In Industrial New York

Current Spirits distinguishes itself as one of the few operating grain-to-glass distilleries in Westchester County, bringing craft spirits production to an area dominated by breweries and wineries. The distillery’s location in a converted warehouse space gives it an authentic industrial feel that contrasts with many farm-based distilleries in upstate New York. Their approach emphasizes small-batch production with hands-on control over every step of the process, from mashing to bottling, allowing for experimentation with different mash bills and aging techniques.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Real Production Floor No Tourist Polish

The intimate scale means you’re likely to interact directly with the production team, who can explain the technical aspects of their copper still operation and aging process. The tasting room maintains the industrial warehouse aesthetic with concrete floors and exposed ceiling, creating an authentic craft distillery atmosphere. Tastings focus on their current releases with detailed explanations of the production methods and flavor profiles.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

Worth It for Craft Spirit Purists

Current Spirits appeals most to craft spirits enthusiasts who appreciate seeing small-scale production and learning about the technical aspects of distilling. The experience works well for visitors who want an authentic, no-frills look at craft distilling without the tourist polish of larger operations. However, those expecting elaborate visitor centers or extensive food offerings might find the experience more limited than some destination distilleries. It’s particularly worthwhile for local residents curious about craft distilling or visitors who enjoy supporting small, independent producers.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead to confirm tour availability as the small operation doesn’t always have regular tour schedules. The distillery is located in an industrial area, so GPS directions work well but don’t expect scenic countryside views. Ask about their current barrel aging projects during your visit, as the team is knowledgeable about their experimental approaches to different aging techniques. Parking is available on-site in the industrial complex. Consider visiting during weekdays when production might be active, giving you a chance to see the stills in operation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Current Spirits — Visitor FAQ

Do I need to make a reservation for tours and tastings?
Yes, Current Spirits requires advance reservations for both tours and tastings. As a small operation, they don’t have regular drop-in hours and schedule visits based on production schedules and staff availability.
What spirits do they currently produce?
Current Spirits focuses on bourbon and rye whiskey as their main products, along with vodka. Their spirits are still relatively young as the distillery opened in 2019, so expect to taste spirits that are developing their character rather than heavily aged expressions.
Is this suitable for large groups or events?
The facility is quite small and intimate, making it better suited for smaller groups rather than large parties or corporate events. Contact them directly to discuss group size limitations and availability for your specific needs.
