ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Tech Executive Turned Copper Still Craftsman

Boardroom Spirits sits in a converted warehouse space on West 3rd Street in Lansdale, about 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Founded in 2014 by Marat Mamedov, a former software executive who traded his corporate career for copper stills and grain bills, the distillery opened its doors to the public in 2016. Mamedov’s background in tech shows up in unexpected ways—he approaches distillation with an engineer’s precision, tracking every variable and tweaking recipes based on data rather than just intuition. The 6,000-square-foot facility houses custom copper pot stills and produces vodka, gin, whiskey, and seasonal specialties. The journey from idea to opening took nearly three years, with Mamedov learning the craft through hands-on experimentation and consultation with industry veterans. He didn’t just want to make another craft distillery—he wanted to create spirits that could compete with established brands while maintaining the creativity that small-batch production allows. The name ‘Boardroom’ reflects his belief that great spirits deserve the same level of strategic thinking and attention to detail as any successful business venture. His team includes head distiller Barry Young, whose background spans both large-scale commercial production and artisanal techniques. Visitors walk into a working distillery where the smell of fermenting grain mingles with hints of juniper and citrus from gin production. The space feels industrial but welcoming, with exposed brick, polished concrete floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the production area with natural light. You can see the entire operation from the tasting room—mash tuns, fermentation tanks, and the gleaming copper stills that turn raw ingredients into finished spirits. Tours run most weekends and give you a close look at each step of the process, from grain to glass.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Data Analytics Meet Traditional Distilling

Boardroom’s tech-savvy approach to traditional distilling sets them apart from typical craft operations. Mamedov uses data analytics to perfect recipes and maintains detailed logs of every batch, allowing for consistency that many smaller distilleries struggle to achieve. Their gin production is particularly noteworthy—they use a vapor basket system that allows for precise control over botanical extraction, creating clean, complex flavors without the harsh edges you sometimes get from steeping methods. The distillery also operates one of the few column stills in the immediate Philadelphia suburbs, giving them flexibility to produce everything from neutral spirits to complex whiskeys. They’re not trying to be the biggest or oldest distillery in Pennsylvania, but they might be the most methodical.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Working Distillery Where You See Everything

Tours are intimate affairs, usually capped at eight people, led by either Barry or one of the other production team members who actually work with the equipment daily. You’ll spend about 45 minutes walking through the production process, touching grain, smelling mash, and watching the stills in action if you visit during production hours. The tasting room occupies one corner of the main space, so you’re never far from the actual distillation happening around you. Tastings include four pours—typically their vodka, gin, and whatever whiskeys are ready for release—with explanations of how each spirit’s production differs. The atmosphere is relaxed and educational rather than flashy, and the team genuinely enjoys talking about the technical aspects of what they do.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

Perfect for Spirit Science Enthusiasts

If you’re interested in the mechanics of distillation and appreciate precise, well-made spirits, Boardroom delivers a solid experience. It’s particularly good for people who want to understand the ‘why’ behind what they’re drinking—you’ll leave knowing more about column stills, botanical extraction, and grain-to-glass production than you did when you walked in. The space isn’t going to wow you with rustic charm or dramatic architecture, but it offers authentic insight into modern craft distilling. Whiskey enthusiasts should know that their aged products are still relatively young, so if you’re looking for 12-year bourbons, this isn’t your stop. But their gin is genuinely excellent, and their approach to vodka production is more thoughtful than most.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Book tours online through their website—weekends fill up quickly, especially during fall and winter months. The distillery is easy to find right on West 3rd Street with dedicated parking behind the building. Saturday afternoons tend to be the most active production times, so you’re more likely to see stills running and smell active fermentation. Ask Barry about their column still setup if you get him as your guide—he loves talking about the technical aspects most distilleries gloss over. Don’t expect a restaurant or full bar menu; this is primarily a production facility with tastings, not a destination dining experience. If you’re buying bottles, their gin consistently outperforms spirits twice the price, while their whiskey offerings are still developing their character.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Boardroom Spirits Distillery — Visitor FAQ

How far in advance should I book a tour?
Weekend tours typically book 2-3 weeks out, especially during fall and winter. Check their website for current availability and book online. They occasionally have same-week openings due to cancellations.
What’s the difference between their vodka and other craft vodkas?
Boardroom uses a column still for their vodka production, which allows for more precise control over the distillation process than pot stills. They distill from corn rather than wheat or potatoes, creating a slightly sweeter, cleaner profile. The multiple filtration steps remove harsh edges while maintaining character.
Are their whiskeys ready to drink, or should I wait?
Their current whiskey releases are 2-4 years old and drinking well now, though they’ll continue to improve with age. Mamedov’s precise approach to production creates whiskeys that are balanced even at younger ages. If you prefer older, more complex whiskeys, check back in a few years as their inventory matures.
