ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Atlanta Hard Cider Co. & Atlanta Distillery sits in an industrial building on Roswell Street in Marietta, about 30 minutes northwest of Atlanta. Founded by Jason Burnette in 2013, the operation started as a hard cider company before expanding into distilling in 2016. Burnette, who came from a background in homebrewing and fermentation science, wanted to create something different in Georgia’s growing craft beverage scene. The facility produces bourbon, vodka, and gin alongside their original hard cider offerings, making it one of the few hybrid operations in the state. The space feels more like a working production facility than a polished tasting room, with exposed brewing tanks and distillation equipment visible throughout the space. You’ll find concrete floors, industrial lighting, and the constant hum of fermentation happening around you. The tasting area occupies one corner of the larger production space, giving visitors a genuine behind-the-scenes look at how both cider and spirits are made. It’s refreshing to visit a place where the focus is clearly on production first, hospitality second.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

The combination of hard cider production and distilling under one roof is genuinely rare in the Southeast. While most operations focus on either beer, wine, cider, or spirits exclusively, Burnette’s background in fermentation science allows him to run both sides efficiently. The cider operation actually supports the distilling side, as they use some of the same apple-based ingredients and fermentation techniques. Their bourbon is made in small batches using traditional methods, while their vodka goes through multiple distillations for a clean finish. The industrial setting means you’re seeing actual production rather than a sanitized show floor, and Burnette often runs tastings himself when he’s around.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Tastings happen at a simple bar setup within the production facility, surrounded by fermentation tanks and distilling equipment. You can usually sample both the cider and spirits offerings, with Burnette or his staff explaining the production differences between the two. The atmosphere is casual and educational rather than fancy, with visitors often getting impromptu mini-tours of the equipment if production isn’t running. The space smells like fermenting apples and oak, and you’ll hear the occasional hiss of equipment or bubbling from the tanks. It’s the kind of place where you might end up in a 20-minute conversation about fermentation science if you ask the right questions.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

If you’re interested in the technical side of beverage production or want to see something different from the typical distillery experience, it’s worth the drive to Marietta. The dual focus on cider and spirits gives you more variety than most places, and the working facility atmosphere appeals to people who want to understand how things are actually made. Don’t expect a polished visitor center or elaborate tours, but do expect to learn something about fermentation and small-batch production. It’s better suited for beverage enthusiasts than casual tourists looking for a scenic afternoon out. The location in an industrial area isn’t particularly charming, but that’s not why you’re going.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead before visiting since hours can vary based on production schedules. The facility is in an industrial area, so GPS should get you there but don’t expect much signage from the street. Parking is usually available in front of the building. Ask about the differences between cider and spirit production if you’re curious about the technical aspects, as the staff enjoys explaining their processes. Try both the cider and spirits offerings since experiencing both sides of the operation is the main draw. Weekend visits might be better for longer conversations since weekdays can be busier with production work.
