Hopkins Vineyard sits on a hillside at 25 Hopkins Road in Warren, Connecticut, overlooking Lake Waramaug in the Litchfield Hills. Founded in 1979 by Bill and Judy Hopkins, this family winery has been crafting wines for over four decades in one of Connecticut’s most scenic locations. The Hopkins family transformed their dairy farm into a vineyard, planting their first vines in the late 1970s and opening their doors to visitors in the early 1980s.
The winery operates from a renovated barn that houses both production facilities and a tasting room with panoramic views of the lake below. Bill Hopkins, originally a dairy farmer, made the transition to winemaking with the help of viticulture experts and years of learning the craft. Today, the operation continues as a family business, producing a range of wines from both estate-grown and locally sourced grapes.
Visitors come for the combination of wine tasting and the spectacular setting overlooking Connecticut’s second-largest natural lake. The vineyard covers several acres on the hillside, and the rustic barn atmosphere creates an intimate tasting experience. Hopkins Vineyard focuses on wines suited to Connecticut’s climate, including hybrid varieties that can withstand New England winters alongside traditional vinifera grapes.
