ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Two Roads Brewing Company sits on Stratford Avenue in Stratford, Connecticut, but despite what you might think from seeing it listed as a distillery, this is actually a brewery that’s made its name in craft beer since opening in 2012. Founded by Phil Markowski, Peter Doering, Clem Pellani, and Brad Hittle, the operation took over a massive 100,000-square-foot former factory building that once housed U.S. Baird Corporation. Phil Markowski, who serves as head brewer, brought serious credentials to the table—he’d previously worked as brewmaster at Southampton Publick House on Long Island for over two decades. The story started when the four founders, all with backgrounds in business and brewing, decided Connecticut needed a craft brewery that could operate at serious scale while maintaining quality. They weren’t content with the typical small brewhouse approach—they installed a 50-barrel brewing system that could handle significant production from day one. The name ‘Two Roads’ comes from Robert Frost’s famous poem, representing the choices we make in life, which felt fitting for four guys leaving corporate careers to bet on craft beer. What you’ll find here is primarily a beer destination, not spirits. The massive space houses their brewing operations, a tasting room, and event spaces. They’ve built a reputation for both their year-round lineup and creative seasonal releases, often collaborating with other brewers and even musicians. The industrial setting gives the whole place an authentic, working-brewery feel rather than a polished tourist attraction.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

The main thing that sets Two Roads apart is the sheer scale of their operation in a state where most craft producers stay small. That 100,000-square-foot facility isn’t just for show—they’re producing serious volume while maintaining craft brewing principles. Phil Markowski’s background brings legitimacy to their brewing program, and they’ve become known for pushing boundaries with ingredients and collaborations. The building itself has character, with its industrial bones and factory history giving it a different vibe from your typical craft brewery taproom.
