Seven Jars Distillery sits in a converted warehouse space on Brookshire Boulevard in Charlotte’s northwest side, about fifteen minutes from downtown. The operation was founded in 2017 by husband-and-wife team Chris and Jennifer Clark, who transitioned from corporate careers to chase their dream of craft distilling. Chris had been homebrewing for years and developed a fascination with distillation, while Jennifer brought business acumen from her background in operations management. They spent nearly two years navigating permits and regulations before opening their doors to the public in 2019. The distillery focuses on small-batch bourbon, rye whiskey, and moonshine, with all production happening on-site using a custom 500-gallon copper still they named ‘Big Bertha.’ The Clarks handle most operations themselves, from mashing and distilling to bottling and labeling, giving visitors a genuine look at hands-on craft distilling. The tasting room has an industrial-chic vibe with exposed brick walls, reclaimed wood tables, and metal accents that reflect the building’s warehouse roots. You’ll often find Chris or Jennifer behind the bar, eager to share stories about their journey from corporate life to craft distilling and the challenges of building a distillery from scratch in North Carolina.
