ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

A Working Farm That Makes Spirits

Pathfinder Farm Distillery sits on a working farm in Keedysville, Maryland, about ten minutes from Antietam National Battlefield. Founded by Dave and Lisa Beahm in 2019, this farm-to-glass operation combines Dave’s background in agriculture with Lisa’s business expertise to create spirits using ingredients grown right on their property. The distillery occupies a converted barn on their 100-acre farm, where they grow corn, wheat, and other grains that end up in their bottles. They produce vodka, gin, and whiskey, with plans to expand their aged spirits portfolio as their barrels mature. The Beahms didn’t start as distillers—Dave worked in agriculture and farming for years before deciding to add value to his grain crops by turning them into spirits. After getting their federal and state licenses, they spent months converting their barn into a working distillery, installing a custom copper still and creating a tasting room that overlooks their grain fields. Lisa handles the business side while Dave focuses on production, though both are hands-on in every aspect of the operation. Their philosophy centers on controlling every step from seed to bottle, which means you’re tasting spirits made from grain that was growing in the field outside just months earlier. Visitors get to experience this farm-to-glass story firsthand during tours and tastings. The setting feels authentically agricultural—you’re surrounded by working farmland, not a polished tourist attraction. The tasting room maintains that farm aesthetic with rustic wood and views of the grain fields. It’s a small operation where you’ll likely meet Dave or Lisa personally, and they’re genuinely enthusiastic about explaining how their grain becomes your glass.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Grain to Glass From the Same Field

The farm-to-glass approach sets Pathfinder apart from most distilleries that buy their grain from commodity markets. Dave grows corn, wheat, and other grains specifically for distillation on the same property where the spirits are made, giving them complete control over the agricultural side of the process. This level of integration is rare in craft distilling—most operations focus on the distillation and aging while sourcing ingredients elsewhere. The agricultural setting also means seasonal variations in their grain can create subtle differences in their spirits year to year, making each batch a reflection of that growing season’s conditions.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Meet the Farmers Who Distill

Tours take you through both the farming and distilling operations, starting with the grain fields where your spirits began and ending at the copper still where they’re made. Dave or Lisa typically lead the tours personally, explaining how they modified their farming practices specifically for distillation and walking you through their small-batch production process. The tasting room overlooks the grain fields, so you can literally see where your whiskey started while you’re drinking it. The atmosphere is relaxed and conversational—more like visiting friends who happen to make great spirits than a formal tourist experience.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

Worth the Drive Through Farm Country

If you appreciate the agricultural side of distilling and want to understand the complete grain-to-glass story, Pathfinder offers something most distilleries can’t. The personal interaction with the owners and the authentic farm setting make it worthwhile for people who prefer smaller, family-run operations over polished commercial tours. It’s particularly interesting if you’ve never seen where grain is actually grown and processed. However, if you’re primarily interested in aged whiskeys or large-scale production, you might want to temper expectations—this is a young operation still building their barrel inventory.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead to schedule tours since this is a working farm and distillery with limited staff. The gravel driveway and rural location mean GPS might get you close but not exactly to the door—look for farm buildings and grain silos. Visit during growing season if possible to see the grain fields in action. Ask Dave about his farming techniques and how he selects grain varieties specifically for distillation. The operation is small enough that production days affect tour availability, so flexibility with scheduling helps.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Pathfinder Farm Distillery — Visitor FAQ

Do you really grow all your own grain on the farm?
Yes, Dave grows corn, wheat, and other grains specifically for distillation on their 100-acre farm. You can see the grain fields during your visit and they’ll explain how they modified their farming practices for distilling rather than commodity grain sales.
How far are you from Antietam National Battlefield?
About ten minutes by car. Many visitors combine their distillery tour with a trip to the battlefield since both are in Keedysville. It’s an easy addition to a day of exploring Civil War history in the area.
When will your whiskey be ready?
They’re currently aging whiskey but most won’t be ready for release for a few more years. Right now they’re focusing on their vodka and gin while their whiskey barrels mature. Ask during your visit about their aging timeline and future release plans.
