Aviation American Gin operates out of Portland, Oregon, though you won’t find a traditional distillery visitor experience at their 2075 NW Wilson Street address. This is the brand that Ryan Reynolds famously acquired in 2018, turning what was already a respected craft gin into a celebrity-backed spirit with serious staying power. Founded in 2006 by distiller Christian Krogstad and bartender Ryan Magarian, Aviation was born from a simple frustration with existing gins that didn’t play well in cocktails. Krogstad, who cut his teeth at House Spirits Distillery, and Magarian, a Portland cocktail scene veteran, wanted to create something specifically designed for American palates and bartenders. The gin is actually produced at House Spirits Distillery in Corvallis, Oregon, about 90 minutes south of Portland. What started as two guys trying to make a better gin for their own bars has become one of the most recognizable American gin brands, distributed nationally and internationally. The Portland address serves more as brand headquarters than a traditional distillery experience.
