ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Arctic Harvest sits on a working farm in North Pole, Alaska, where the midnight sun and sub-zero winters create conditions unlike any other distillery in America. Founded by Brandon and Tonya Routh, this grain-to-glass operation grows its own barley and wheat on the same land where they distill their spirits. The couple launched the distillery in 2019 after Brandon’s military career ended, transforming their Eielson Farm Road property into Alaska’s northernmost craft distillery. Their small copper pot still produces vodka, gin, and whiskey using Alaska-grown grains and glacial water. The operation runs out of a converted farm building where you can see the grain fields through the tasting room windows, making it one of the few places in America where you can watch your drink’s ingredients grow outside while you sip.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Arctic Harvest is Alaska’s only true farm distillery, growing their own barley and wheat in the challenging subarctic climate of North Pole, Alaska. The extreme seasonal light variations—from 20-hour summer days to winter’s perpetual twilight—affect how their grains develop, creating unique flavor profiles you can’t replicate anywhere else. They’re also one of the northernmost distilleries in North America, operating at 64 degrees north latitude where the growing season is short but intense. The distillery uses glacial water and practices true grain-to-glass production on their working farm, giving visitors the rare opportunity to see the entire process from field to bottle in one location.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

You’ll walk through a working farm distillery where the smell of fermenting grain mixes with the scent of growing barley just outside the windows. The Rouths personally lead most visits, taking you from their grain storage areas through their small-batch distillation process using their copper pot still. The tasting room overlooks the actual fields where their grains grow, creating an authentic farm-to-bottle experience that’s hard to find anywhere else. Tours are intimate affairs—this isn’t a large commercial operation—and you’ll get hands-on explanations of how Alaska’s unique climate affects their grain development and fermentation process.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

This is perfect for visitors who want to see true craft distilling in an authentic agricultural setting rather than a polished tourist experience. If you’re interested in the agricultural side of spirits and want to understand how climate affects grain development, Arctic Harvest offers something genuinely unique. The operation is small and personal—you’re not getting elaborate cocktail bars or restaurant dining, but you are getting direct access to passionate farmers-turned-distillers who can explain every step of their process. It’s especially worthwhile for anyone curious about Alaska agriculture or seeking spirits you literally can’t taste anywhere else due to the unique growing conditions.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead to schedule visits since this is a small operation that doesn’t always have regular hours. The farm location means GPS can be tricky—look for the farm signs along Eielson Farm Road rather than relying solely on the address. Summer visits let you see the grains growing in the fields, while winter visits show how they operate during Alaska’s harsh months. Ask about their grain varieties and growing challenges—the Rouths are farmers first and love talking about how Alaska’s climate affects their crops. Bring cash for bottle purchases since card processing can be spotty at the remote farm location.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Arctic Harvest — Visitor FAQ

Do you really grow all your own grains in Alaska?
Yes, they grow barley and wheat right on the farm property. The short but intense growing season with extended daylight hours creates grains with different characteristics than you’d find in traditional grain-growing regions. You can see the fields during farm visits.
How does Alaska’s climate affect your spirits?
The extreme seasonal light variations and temperature swings affect how their grains develop and how fermentation proceeds. Summer’s 20-hour days create intense grain development, while winter’s cold temperatures slow fermentation, creating unique flavor profiles.
Can I visit year-round or just during summer?
They operate year-round, though you’ll need to call ahead to arrange visits. Summer visits let you see the growing grains, while winter visits show how they maintain operations in sub-zero temperatures. Each season offers different insights into their process.
