ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Engineering Meets Whiskey In Houston's Heart

William Price Distilling sits in a converted warehouse space on Wakefield Drive in Houston’s Spring Branch area, founded by William Price in 2016. Price, a former engineer turned distiller, started the operation after years of home distilling and decided to bring craft spirits production to Houston’s growing distillery scene. The facility operates out of a 3,000-square-foot space where they produce bourbon, rye whiskey, and vodka using a custom-built 500-gallon copper still. What began as Price’s passion project has grown into one of Houston’s notable small-batch distilleries, focusing on traditional methods with modern equipment. The operation remains hands-on, with Price overseeing production while building relationships with local bars and restaurants throughout the Houston area. The distillery reflects Houston’s industrial character while maintaining the personal touch of a founder-operated business.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Urban Distilling Done The Technical Way

William Price Distilling stands out as one of the few distilleries operating within Houston proper, bringing grain-to-glass production to Texas’s largest city. Price’s engineering background shows in his methodical approach to distillation and quality control, using precise temperature monitoring and custom fermentation protocols. The distillery sources Texas-grown corn when possible and ages their whiskey in new American oak barrels in Houston’s challenging climate, which accelerates the aging process compared to traditional whiskey regions. Their location in an industrial part of Houston gives visitors an authentic look at urban distilling, away from the more polished tourist destinations.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

No Tourist Polish Just Serious Craft

Visitors get a behind-the-scenes look at small-batch distillation in an working industrial setting. Tours take you through the mash room where you can see the fermentation tanks and smell the sweet corn mash, then to the still room where Price or his team explain the distillation process. The tasting room area is modest but functional, focusing attention on the spirits rather than elaborate decor. You’ll taste their current releases while learning about Houston’s role in Texas’s distilling revival and how the local climate affects aging.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

For Spirits Nerds Absolutely Worth It

This appeals most to serious spirits enthusiasts and locals curious about Houston’s craft distilling scene. You’re getting an authentic, small-operation experience rather than a polished tourist attraction. If you’re interested in the technical side of distilling and don’t mind an industrial setting, it’s worth the trip. Don’t expect elaborate facilities or extensive gift shops – this is about the craft and the spirits. It works well as part of a Houston distillery tour but might disappoint those wanting a more resort-like experience.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead to schedule tours since this is a working distillery with limited visitor hours. The location can be tricky to find in the industrial area, so use GPS and look for the building numbers carefully. Parking is available on-site but the entrance might not be immediately obvious from the street. Ask Price about his engineering approach to distilling if you’re interested in the technical aspects – he’s knowledgeable about the science behind the process. Weekend visits often offer the best chance to meet the founder and get detailed explanations of their methods.
