ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Working Farm Distillery Growing Its Own Grain

Tom’s Foolery sits on a working farm in Burton, Ohio, where they’ve been making spirits since 2011. You’ll find this place tucked away on Rapids Road in Geauga County, about 45 minutes east of Cleveland. The husband-and-wife team behind it grows their own corn and wheat right on the property, then distills everything in small batches using traditional methods. The operation feels authentic in a way that’s hard to fake—part farm, part distillery, all Ohio. You can tour the facility, taste their spirits, and see the whole process from grain to glass. The tasting room overlooks the distillery floor, so you’re watching the action while you sip. They focus on American whiskey and corn whiskey, plus some seasonal spirits that rotate based on what they’re experimenting with.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Seed to Bottle On the Same Land

They grow their own grain right on the farm where they distill, which gives them control over the entire process from seed to bottle. Their corn whiskey uses an old family recipe, and they age everything in charred oak barrels made by a local cooperage. The whole operation runs on farm time—no rushing, just doing things right.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Farm Time Tours Not Tourist Theater

The tasting room has a laid-back farm vibe with friendly staff who know the stories behind each bottle. Tours take you through the grain bins, mash tanks, and barrel storage, with plenty of chances to ask questions. You can see the stills working and smell the mash fermenting—it’s the real deal, not a polished tourist show.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

Real Deal Operation Worth the Rural Drive

If you’re into craft spirits and want to see how a farm-to-bottle operation actually works, it’s definitely worth the drive. The whiskey is solid, and you’re supporting a true small-batch operation that’s doing everything themselves. Skip it if you’re looking for fancy cocktails or a big group party scene.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead to confirm they’re open since farm schedules can vary seasonally. The gravel driveway can get muddy in wet weather, so wear appropriate shoes. Their corn whiskey is the star of the show, so make sure to try it even if you usually stick to bourbon. The gift shop has bottles you can’t find in stores, and they’ll often let you taste before buying if you ask nicely.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Tom’s Foolery Farm and Distillery — Visitor FAQ

Do I need to book tours in advance?
It’s best to call ahead, especially on weekends or during busy seasons. They can usually accommodate walk-ins but calling ensures someone will be available to show you around.
What’s special about their corn whiskey?
They use corn grown right on their farm and follow an old family recipe. It’s bottled at higher proof than most corn whiskeys and has a sweeter, more complex flavor than typical moonshine.
Can I buy bottles that aren’t available in stores?
Yes, they often have distillery-only releases and barrel picks that you can’t find elsewhere. Their gift shop carries their full range of spirits plus some limited batches.
