The Distillery at Greylock WORKS sits inside a massive renovated mill complex in North Adams, Massachusetts, where the Berkshire Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop. Founded by Jeremy Elliott and his team, this operation launched in 2019 as part of the ambitious redevelopment of the former Sprague Electric Company factory – a sprawling industrial site that once employed thousands. The distillery occupies several thousand square feet of this historic space, producing whiskey, gin, and vodka using a custom-built 500-gallon copper still system. Elliott, who previously worked in renewable energy, partnered with experienced distillers to create what’s become one of western Massachusetts’ most interesting craft spirits operations.
The journey to opening wasn’t simple. Converting industrial space into a functioning distillery required extensive permitting and renovation work, but the team preserved much of the building’s original character – exposed brick walls, high ceilings, and industrial fixtures that speak to the site’s manufacturing heritage. Master distiller Mike Reppucci brings decades of brewing and distilling experience, having worked at several New England craft operations before joining Greylock WORKS. Their philosophy centers on using local ingredients when possible and creating spirits that reflect the character of the Berkshires region.
Visitors walk through production areas that feel authentically industrial rather than prettified for tourism. The tasting room overlooks the still room, so you can watch the distilling process while sampling their products. What makes this place worth visiting isn’t just the spirits – though their gin has won several regional awards – but the sense of witnessing industrial revival in action. The entire Greylock WORKS complex houses multiple businesses, from manufacturers to artists, creating an energy that most distilleries lack.
