Territory Distilling sits on South Fern Street in Stillwater, Oklahoma, bringing craft spirits to the heart of Cowboy Country. Founded by husband-and-wife team Brad and Melissa Cockrell, this family operation launched in 2019 after years of perfecting their recipes and navigating Oklahoma’s evolving distillery laws. Brad, a former engineer, and Melissa, who handled the business side, transformed a 3,000-square-foot warehouse into a working distillery complete with custom copper stills and a welcoming tasting room. They produce bourbon, vodka, and rum using locally-sourced grains when possible, keeping batches intentionally small to maintain quality control. The Cockrells wanted to create something uniquely Oklahoman—spirits that reflect the state’s agricultural heritage and independent spirit. Their timing proved perfect, opening just as Oklahoma was loosening restrictions on distillery operations and direct-to-consumer sales. The operation remains decidedly hands-on, with Brad handling distillation while Melissa manages tastings and tours, giving visitors direct access to the people behind every bottle.
