ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

A Master Distiller's Second Chapter

Stoll and Wolfe Distillery sits in the heart of Lititz, Pennsylvania, occupying a restored historic building on North Cedar Street. Founded by Eric Wolfe and Dick Stoll in 2012, this small-batch operation represents a meeting of two very different backgrounds – Wolfe’s entrepreneurial spirit and Stoll’s decades of experience in large-scale distilling. Stoll spent 38 years as master distiller at Michter’s, where he oversaw production of some of America’s most respected whiskeys before partnering with Wolfe to create something entirely their own. The distillery focuses on bourbon, rye whiskey, and rum, crafting spirits in small batches with an emphasis on traditional methods and careful aging. The space itself reflects Lititz’s rich history as a Moravian settlement, with exposed brick walls and hardwood floors that give visitors a sense of stepping into Pennsylvania’s craft distilling heritage. You’ll find this isn’t a massive operation – it’s the kind of place where the founders are likely to be on-site, working alongside their small team to produce spirits that reflect both Stoll’s institutional knowledge and their shared vision for what American whiskey can be.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Four Decades at Michter's Now Making His Own

Dick Stoll’s involvement sets this distillery apart from most craft operations. While many new distilleries are founded by enthusiastic amateurs learning as they go, Stoll brings nearly four decades of professional distilling experience from Michter’s, where he was responsible for some of the most sought-after American whiskeys of the 1980s and 1990s. This isn’t just another craft distillery story – it’s a chance to taste whiskeys made by someone who helped define modern American whiskey production. The partnership with Eric Wolfe, who handles the business side, allows Stoll to focus entirely on production, creating spirits that bridge the gap between craft innovation and old-school expertise.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Like Sitting Down With a Legend

Tours at Stoll and Wolfe feel more like a masterclass than a typical distillery visit, especially if you’re lucky enough to meet Dick Stoll himself. You’ll walk through the production area where Stoll explains not just what they’re doing, but why – drawing on decades of experience to discuss fermentation, distillation, and aging in ways that go far beyond surface-level explanations. The tasting room occupies part of the historic building, where exposed brick and original hardwood floors create an atmosphere that’s both rustic and refined. During tastings, you’re likely to hear stories about the evolution of American whiskey and how techniques have changed over the past 40 years.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

For Whiskey Students Absolutely Essential

If you’re serious about American whiskey, this is absolutely worth your time. The combination of Stoll’s expertise and the intimate setting creates an educational experience that’s hard to find elsewhere. You’re not just tasting good whiskey – you’re learning from someone who’s been making it longer than most distillery founders have been alive. It’s less appealing if you’re looking for a party atmosphere or elaborate production, but perfect for anyone who wants to understand what separates great whiskey from good whiskey. The small scale means you’ll get personal attention and real insights into the craft.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead to schedule a visit since they operate more by appointment than regular public hours. Ask specifically about Dick Stoll’s availability if you want to meet the master distiller himself – his schedule varies, but when he’s there, he’s generous with his time and knowledge. The location is in downtown Lititz, which makes parking a bit tight, but the area is walkable with several restaurants nearby if you want to make an afternoon of it. Come with specific questions about whiskey production if you’re a serious enthusiast – Stoll enjoys talking shop with people who understand the craft. Don’t expect a polished corporate experience, but do expect to learn more about American whiskey than you will almost anywhere else.
