Sonoma Coast Spirits operates out of an industrial space on North McDowell Boulevard in Petaluma, bringing craft distilling to California’s wine country. Founded by husband-and-wife team Chris and Amanda Drown, this small-batch distillery focuses on producing premium vodka, gin, and whiskey using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. The operation launched in 2016 after Chris, who had a background in brewing, decided to pivot into distilling with a focus on creating clean, distinctive spirits that reflect the agricultural abundance of Sonoma County. The distillery occupies a modest production facility that doubles as a tasting room, where visitors can sample their portfolio while watching the distillation process unfold just steps away. Amanda handles much of the business operations while Chris oversees production on their custom copper still, creating small batches that allow for careful quality control and experimentation with different botanicals and grain bills. Their approach emphasizes transparency in production methods and ingredients, with a particular focus on showcasing how local terroir can influence spirits just as it does wine in this famous region.
