ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

Industrial Warehouse Turned Working Distillery

Naked Spirits Distillery sits in an industrial complex in St. Louis, Missouri, founded by Tim Piersol and his team who transformed a warehouse space into a working distillery and tasting room. The operation launched in 2014 with a focus on producing small-batch bourbon, rye whiskey, and vodka using traditional copper pot stills. Piersol, who previously worked in the restaurant industry, dove into distilling after becoming fascinated with the craft during travels through Kentucky bourbon country. The 5,000-square-foot facility houses their production equipment alongside a rustic tasting room where visitors can sample their spirits directly from the source. What started as a passion project has grown into one of Missouri’s recognized craft distilleries, with their products now distributed across the Midwest. The team takes pride in their grain-to-glass approach, sourcing corn and other grains from local Missouri farms when possible and handling every step of production on-site.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

True Grain to Glass No Shortcuts Taken

Naked Spirits stands out for their commitment to transparency in both name and process – they literally strip down their operation for visitors to see everything happening. Unlike many craft distilleries that source pre-made spirits, they handle the entire process from mashing to bottling in their St. Louis facility. Their location in an industrial park might seem unconventional, but it allows them to focus resources on quality equipment and ingredients rather than flashy real estate. The distillery also embraces Missouri’s agricultural heritage by incorporating locally-sourced grains into their mash bills when available, creating spirits that reflect the regional terroir.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Watch Every Step Happen Before You

You’ll walk into a no-frills tasting room that opens directly onto the production floor, where copper stills and fermentation tanks are visible throughout your visit. The atmosphere is casual and educational, with staff explaining each step of their process while you sample their current offerings. Tours include seeing the milling, mashing, and distillation equipment up close, plus a walk through their barrel storage area where you can smell the aging whiskeys. The tasting experience focuses on their core lineup, with knowledgeable staff explaining the flavor profiles and production details behind each spirit.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

Real Distillery Experience Without Tourist Crowds

If you’re interested in seeing craft distilling up close without the tourist crowds, Naked Spirits delivers an authentic behind-the-scenes experience. The industrial setting won’t impress Instagram followers, but whiskey enthusiasts will appreciate the focus on process over presentation. It’s ideal for folks who want to understand how spirits are actually made rather than just sample finished products in a polished tasting room. Don’t expect elaborate cocktail programs or gourmet food pairings – this is about the spirits themselves.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Call ahead to confirm tasting room hours, as they sometimes adjust for production schedules or private events. The industrial location can be tricky to find initially, so use GPS and look for the building number rather than obvious signage. Weekend afternoons tend to be less crowded if you prefer a more intimate tasting experience. Ask about their barrel program if you’re interested in purchasing your own barrel for aging. Parking is plentiful in the industrial complex, and don’t dress up – this is a working distillery where you might encounter some industrial dust.
