Hunt Club Distillery sits on a sprawling property along Indiana State Route 47 in Sheridan, about 30 minutes north of Indianapolis. Founded by Mark and Lisa Hunt in 2018, this family operation grew out of Mark’s passion for distilling that started as a hobby in his garage. The couple transformed a former industrial building into their distillery and tasting room, creating a space that feels more like visiting friends than a commercial operation. They focus on small-batch bourbon, rye whiskey, and moonshine, with Mark handling the distillation while Lisa manages the business side and visitor experiences.
The Hunts didn’t come from the spirits industry—Mark worked in manufacturing while Lisa had a background in hospitality—but they dove deep into learning the craft before opening their doors. They spent years perfecting their recipes and building relationships with local grain suppliers, wanting to create something authentically Indiana. The distillery runs on a 250-gallon copper still, and they age their whiskeys in 15 and 30-gallon barrels, allowing for more experimentation with different char levels and aging techniques than you’d find at larger operations.
Visitors get an intimate look at the entire process, from milling grain to bottling. The tasting room has a rustic feel with reclaimed wood and comfortable seating where you can sample their lineup while Mark or Lisa explains their approach. It’s the kind of place where conversations happen naturally, and you might find yourself learning about the nuances of different mash bills or why they chose specific barrel chars. The small scale means every bottle has a story, and the Hunts are happy to share those stories with anyone who’s interested.
