EverNorth Spirits Co. sits on Rockwell Drive in Freeland, Michigan, about twenty minutes north of Saginaw in the heart of Michigan’s agricultural region. Founded by Matt and Amy Moyer in 2019, this craft distillery emerged from Matt’s background in mechanical engineering and Amy’s business expertise, combined with their shared fascination with fermentation science. The couple spent three years planning and building out their 4,000-square-foot facility, installing custom copper stills and carefully designing their production space to handle everything from grain-to-glass whiskey to botanical-forward gins. What started as weekend hobby distilling in their garage evolved into a full-scale operation producing bourbon, rye whiskey, vodka, and gin.
The Moyers didn’t take the typical path into distilling. Matt’s engineering background shows throughout the facility, from the precisely calibrated distillation equipment to the methodical approach they take to recipe development. They source corn and wheat from local Michigan farms within a fifty-mile radius, connecting their spirits directly to the agricultural heritage of the Saginaw Valley. The name ‘EverNorth’ reflects both Michigan’s position and their philosophy of constantly pushing forward and improving. Amy handles the business side while Matt focuses on production, but you’ll often find both of them working the tasting room, genuinely excited to walk visitors through their process and the stories behind each spirit.
The experience centers around their tasting room, which feels more like visiting friends who happen to make really good spirits than a corporate distillery tour. You can watch production through large windows that look directly into the distillation area, and the Moyers are usually happy to explain what’s happening if they’re running stills during your visit. The space has a clean, modern feel with touches of Michigan timber and local artwork, and the focus stays squarely on the spirits and the stories behind them.
