End of Days Distillery sits in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina, founded by husband-and-wife team Matt and Amy Cunningham who opened their doors in 2016. The couple transformed a former auto repair shop on Castle Street into a 3,000-square-foot distillery and tasting room, complete with exposed brick walls and industrial touches that nod to the building’s past. Matt handles the distilling operations while Amy manages the business side, and together they’ve built something that feels authentically Wilmington—unpretentious, welcoming, and focused on quality over flash. They produce vodka, gin, rum, and whiskey using a 250-gallon copper still from Vendome Copper & Brass Works.
The Cunninghams didn’t come from the spirits industry—Matt worked in construction and Amy in marketing—but they shared a fascination with the science and craft of distillation. After years of home experimentation and research, they decided to take the leap into commercial production. The name ‘End of Days’ reflects their philosophy that life’s too short not to pursue your passions, and every bottle should be worth savoring. They’ve weathered the typical startup challenges of a small distillery, from navigating local regulations to building distribution, but their focus has remained on creating spirits that represent their vision of what good craft distilling should be.
Visitors find a relaxed, authentic experience that’s more about education and genuine hospitality than flashy marketing. The tasting room feels like hanging out with friends who happen to make excellent spirits, and the Cunninghams or their small team are usually around to talk process, ingredients, or just chat about Wilmington. You’re tasting spirits made a few feet away, and that connection between production and product is what makes the experience memorable. It’s craft distilling at human scale.
