Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting Room sits right off Highway 290 in Dripping Springs, about 25 miles southwest of Austin in the heart of Texas Hill Country. Founded in 2010 by Clayton Christopher and Chad Auler, Deep Eddy started as Texas’s first legal vodka distillery since Prohibition. Christopher, a former tech entrepreneur, teamed up with Auler, whose family owns Fall Creek Vineyards, to create something different in the vodka world. The distillery takes its name from Deep Eddy Pool, Austin’s oldest man-made swimming pool and a beloved local landmark.
What began as a small operation with a mission to make the smoothest vodka possible has grown into one of Texas’s most recognizable spirit brands. Christopher and Auler focused on 10-times distillation and charcoal filtering to create an ultra-smooth base, then expanded into flavored vodkas using real fruit juices. Their breakthrough came with Sweet Tea Vodka in 2011, which captured the essence of Southern sweet tea in a bottle. The brand grew so successfully that Diageo acquired it in 2015, though production and the tasting room remain rooted in Dripping Springs.
The tasting room offers visitors a chance to experience the brand’s full range in a relaxed Hill Country setting. You’re not touring a massive production facility here—this is about tasting, learning the story, and understanding what makes Deep Eddy different from other vodkas. The space reflects that Texas casual vibe the brand embodies, and you’ll often find locals mixing with tourists who’ve made the drive from Austin specifically to visit.
