Bayou Rum Distillery sits on 20,000 square feet in rural Lacassine, Louisiana, about 30 minutes west of Lake Charles. Founded by brothers Tim and Trey Litel along with business partner Skip Cortese in 2013, this operation grew from the brothers’ shared passion for Louisiana’s sugarcane heritage and their frustration with finding quality American rum. The Litel brothers, who come from entrepreneurial backgrounds in various industries, spent years researching rum production and sourcing the right equipment before opening their doors. The facility houses custom copper pot stills and operates in a modern industrial building designed specifically for rum production, with plans for expansion that include event hosting capabilities. They focus exclusively on rum production, using Louisiana sugarcane and molasses to create their signature spirits. The distillery represents Louisiana’s return to rum making after decades of absence, positioning itself as the state’s premier rum producer. What started as a weekend hobby project between brothers has evolved into a serious distillery operation that’s putting Louisiana rum back on the map. The team includes experienced distillers who’ve helped refine their production process over the years, focusing on traditional rum-making techniques adapted for Louisiana ingredients.
