Tucked into a converted warehouse in Bushwick, Arcane Distilling opened in 2014 as the brainchild of Patrick Williams, a former software engineer who traded coding for copper stills. The 4,000-square-foot space on Johnson Avenue feels more like an artist’s loft than a traditional distillery, with exposed brick walls and industrial fixtures creating an atmosphere that’s distinctly Brooklyn. Williams partnered with master distiller Dave Kyrejko, who brought experience from Tuthilltown Spirits, to create small-batch whiskeys that reflect the neighborhood’s creative energy. The operation centers around a 500-liter German copper still that Williams and Kyrejko use to produce bourbon, rye whiskey, and occasional experimental releases that push traditional boundaries. Their approach blends respect for classic American whiskey traditions with the kind of innovation you’d expect from a distillery born in one of the city’s most artistic boroughs. The space doubles as both production facility and tasting room, where visitors can watch the actual distillation process while sampling spirits that capture Brooklyn’s independent spirit. What started as Williams’ weekend hobby in a much smaller space has evolved into a legitimate craft operation that’s helped establish Bushwick as an emerging destination for artisanal spirits production.
