ABOUT THIS DISTILLERY

New Jersey's First Grain-to-Glass Operation

All Points West Distillery sits in Newark’s Ironbound district, where founders Mike Rigano and Paul Anzalone transformed a former industrial space into New Jersey’s first grain-to-glass distillery when they opened in 2014. The operation spans 10,000 square feet on Tichenor Street, where they’ve installed a 500-gallon copper still from Vendome Copper & Brass Works alongside fermentation tanks and a bottling line. What started as two guys with day jobs in finance and real estate has grown into a full production facility making whiskey, gin, vodka, and rum using locally sourced grains whenever possible. The distillery takes its name from the Old West saying about heading in every direction—fitting for a operation that’s tackled multiple spirit categories from the start. Rigano handles the business side while Anzalone focuses on production, though both stay hands-on with everything from mashing grain to bottling. You’ll find them on the distillery floor most days, tweaking recipes and talking shop with visitors. The space feels more like a working warehouse than a polished tasting room, which is exactly what they were going for. They wanted people to see the actual work behind making spirits, not just the pretty parts.

WHAT SETS THEM APART

Industrial Newark Warehouse Making Five Spirit Categories

This is New Jersey’s first true grain-to-glass distillery, meaning they mill their own grain, ferment, distill, age, and bottle everything on-site rather than just finishing sourced spirits. The location in Newark’s Ironbound district puts them in the heart of an area known more for Portuguese restaurants than craft spirits, making them genuine neighborhood pioneers. Their 500-gallon copper still allows them to make small batches across multiple categories—they’re not locked into being just a whiskey distillery or just a gin house. The founders’ backgrounds in finance and real estate, rather than brewing or distilling, led them to approach recipes and business decisions differently than industry veterans might.

THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

No Polish, Just Real Production Floor

Tours happen on weekends and give you a real behind-the-scenes look at the grain-to-glass process, from the mill room where they crack corn and wheat to the still room where you can see (and smell) active fermentation. Mike or Paul often lead tours themselves, explaining why they chose specific equipment and walking you through their recipe development process. The tasting room doubles as their retail space and feels deliberately unpretentious—concrete floors, exposed ceiling, cases of bottles stacked nearby. You’ll taste through their core lineup while standing near the actual production equipment, so you can ask specific questions about what you’re drinking. The whole experience takes about an hour and focuses more on education than entertainment.

IS IT WORTH VISITING

For Spirits Geeks Worth the Industrial Drive

If you’re interested in the actual mechanics of craft distilling and don’t need a polished, Instagram-ready experience, this is solid. The founders genuinely know their stuff and aren’t trying to impress you with fancy marketing—they’d rather talk about mash bills and fermentation times. It’s particularly good for spirits geeks who want to understand the technical side and ask detailed questions without feeling rushed. Families might find it less engaging since there’s no food and the focus stays pretty technical throughout. The location isn’t scenic and parking can be tricky in the industrial area, so manage expectations accordingly.

⚠️ VISITING TIPS

Book tours online through their website or call ahead—they don’t always have someone available for walk-ins during the week. Parking is street parking in an industrial area, so arrive a few minutes early to find a spot. Saturday afternoons tend to be their busiest time, so if you want more one-on-one time with the founders, try Sunday tours. Ask about their barrel aging program if you’re into whiskey—they’ve got some interesting experiments going that aren’t always part of the standard tour. The neighborhood has excellent Portuguese restaurants within walking distance, so consider making it a longer trip.
