What Is The Pourch?

The Pourch is about more than bourbon reviews—it’s about slowing down, swapping tales, and enjoying good company. Think of it like gathering out on the porch: the chairs are open, the bottle’s on the table, and everyone’s welcome to take a sip and add to the conversation.

There’s a wide world of bourbon and American whiskey out there. From tucked-away distilleries in Kentucky hollers to that surprising bottle you stumbled on at your local shop, there’s always something worth pouring. We can’t cover it all ourselves, and honestly—that’s half the fun.

When you join The Pourch as a contributor, you help keep our community buzzing with stories, laughter, and discoveries—just like a porch gathering on a summer night.

Why Contribute to The Pourch?

Because whiskey was never meant to be enjoyed alone.

We’re building a community where bourbon lovers can share authentic experiences, discover new bottles, and learn from each other’s palates. Your voice adds to that conversation.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Bourbon enthusiasts who want to share regular content (not just one-time posts)
  • Whiskey travelers documenting distillery visits and tasting room experiences
  • Reviewers with unique perspectives on bourbon, rye, and American whiskey
  • Storytellers who can capture the culture and craft behind the spirit
  • Writers at any level—from seasoned bloggers to first-time contributors

What Can You Contribute?

We welcome several types of bourbon and whiskey content:

Your Pours – Bourbon reviews and tasting notes straight from your glass. Share what you’re sipping, what you’re discovering, and how different whiskeys compare.

Your Journeys – Distillery tour experiences, bourbon bar visits, whiskey festival coverage, and tales from the bourbon trail.

Your View – Photography that captures the spirit of whiskey culture—whether it’s a beautiful pour, a distillery landscape, or the people behind the bourbon.

House Rules (Simple but Important)

To keep The Pourch authentic and welcoming, we ask all contributors to follow these guidelines:

Keep it yours. We want original content that reflects your genuine experiences. If you’re cross-posting something you’ve already published elsewhere, just give us a heads-up first.

AI policy: No fully AI-written posts. AI can help polish your writing or check grammar, but the voice, experience, and perspective must be authentically yours.

Drink responsibly. Share the joy of bourbon culture, but never promote overconsumption, drinking and driving, or unsafe behavior. We’re here to celebrate the craft, not encourage excess.

No sales pitches. The Pourch is for authentic stories and reviews, not advertisements. You can mention brands you love, but hard sells and promotional content don’t belong here.

Respect the community. Keep discussions respectful, give credit where it’s due, and contribute to the welcoming atmosphere that makes The Pourch special.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a bourbon expert to contribute? Not at all! We welcome contributors at every level. Whether you’re a certified bourbon steward or someone who just loves exploring new bottles, your perspective has value. Authenticity matters more than expertise.

How often do I need to post? We’re looking for regular contributors, not one-time guests. Ideally, plan to share at least 1-2 posts per month, but we understand life happens. Quality always beats quantity.

What if I’ve never written about bourbon before? That’s completely fine! If you have a passion for whiskey and can share your experiences in an engaging way, we’ll work with you to develop your voice and style.

Can I write about whiskey other than bourbon? Absolutely. While bourbon is our primary focus, we welcome content about rye, Tennessee whiskey, and other American whiskeys. We’re all about the broader American whiskey experience.

How long should my posts be? For bourbon reviews, aim for 300-600 words. For distillery visit stories or longer features, 600-1200 words works well. Focus on being thorough but readable.

What about photos? Original photos are always welcome and encouraged! They help bring your stories to life. Just make sure you have the rights to any images you submit.

Ready to Pull Up a Chair?

Let’s keep the porch light on, pass the bottle, and make The Pourch a place where good whiskey and good stories are always flowing.

Share your palate. Tell your story. Help others discover the craft.
